Local Searches what are they

Local search is essentially the Internet's version of the phone book. The difference being that this "phone book" is much faster and far more responsive. For example I am staying in a hotel in Castlegar and I want to find a good eating place so I put in Restaurants Castlegar in the Yahoo.ca and see a number of local eating establishments listed. This is easier than looking it up in the Yellow Pages and a lot faster. Try it for yourself.

The Kelsey Group has found that 70% of US households use the Internet for information. In Canada the Internet penetration is higher than the US so I would expect the Canadian households to follow the same patterns as the US.

You can see if your business is listed in the local listings by going to www.yahoo.ca or www.google.ca. The .com of these search engines only have the local listings of US states and cities. www.askjeeves.ca will give you a local listing if you first list the business or service than add Castlegar
