HiSpeed service?

In practice the speed advantage of cable over ADSL is much lower than might first be apparent. Both cable modem and ADSL performance vary from one minute to the next depending on the pattern of use and traffic congestion on the Internet. This means that both services will rarely -- if ever -- reach peak performance.

Furthermore, cable modem technology delivers shared bandwidth within the local neighborhood while ADSL delivers dedicated local bandwidth. With cable, performance at any given time depends on how many cable subscribers in the neighborhood are currently actively using the network as well as load on the Internet generally. This "double whammy" suggests that cable modem will perform relatively slower during peak usage periods (5-11 PM).

There was another factor which affected both cable and ADSL service speed; no Microsoft operating system, until WINDOWS XP arrived, was configured to optimize "faster service". But even Windows XP can be tweaked further for more speed. Now are you interested? Here is what you do (no cost to you).

1)I would like you to first go to http://bandwidthplace.com/ and test your present data transfer speed PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE PATCH. Record the "before" speed somewhere where you can find it again.
2) Now go to the speedtest DOWNLOAD THE PATCH to match the operating system you are using. 3) To install, you can save the "patch to your computer and then install or right-click and install it from the speedguide web dite. You need to reboot for changes to take effect.
4) Once computer is rebooted return to http://bandwidthplace.com/. and test your data transfer speed. Record the "after" speed somewhere where you can find it. See the difference? If there is no difference then you haven't properly installed the patch.
