Education on The NetThe Internet has been the subject of controversy since the RCMP arrested a man In Kirkland Lake for providing offensive material to the Internet. However this material is only a very small percentage of the information you can access on the Internet, so lets not overlook some of the excellent educational material on the Internet, all of which you can access. Education on the Internet can be fun, and easy too. There are a number of sites which children can use (adults too) that are easy. The Why ( http://whyfiles.org/ ) Files at the National Science Foundation is a nice example. This site tries to answer some common questions children ask and is created for kids. Learn about the windy planet, chemical warfare and its after effects, or learn about fear. The why files can verify all its information. Experts are used to check the facts in every story. Their names and/ or their home pages are listed after the article so you can contact them for further information. My all time favorite site is the NASCA site where you can down load images of the shuttle, various planets, and some shots from the Hubble telescope NASA See or visit the NASA ( http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/ ) page to read about future plans for exploration of Mars. Another good site is the discovery channel ( http://www.discovery.com/ ) read about the history of liquid paper (white out) or about Charles Lindberg's flight, the topics change every day. This site is easy to navigate and down loads quickly. MY favorite television station is on the Internet complete with an excellent kids zone. Try at PBS KSPS ( http://www.ksps.org ) There are several excellent Canadian resources: our own Science world B.C ( http://www.scienceworld.bc.ca/ ). If your family is interested in the latest news try the CBC ( http://www.cbc.ca/ ) or the national electronic edition of the Globe and Mail ( http://www.theglobeandmail.com/ ) If you prefer to obtain your news from the U.S. you can reach at CNN ( http://www.cnn.com/ ). There are other sites on the Internet which are available to you, but at a cost. For example you can use Encyclopedia Britannic ( http://www.eb.com/ ) for an annual cost. |
