Quality Measure of a site
A quality web site is clear as to what products or services it offers and sets them apart from other similar services. For example: there are a large number of accountants offering similar services but if you offer your service as a "Christian Orientated accountant" you have set yourself apart from others. Being a Christian accountant infers that you have a unique set of values that you share with other Christian (i.e. new potential clients) as to business practice and philosophy A quality web site offers a direct benefit to its customers, and is more innovative then a traditional business approach, only lacking face to face contact with customers. A visitor to your site is specifically looking for something of value to themselves not to your business. If a site has value it must have information, knowledge and entertainment (broadly speaking). A customer who feels he/she has obtained something of value from a site will eventually follow with their money.
Evaluation of site effectiveness can be measured in a variety of ways; but it should be measured. Many ISP's and web consultants have access to programs that track who visits the site, where they came from, and how long they stayed. Software of this nature can determine the origin of the inquiry, how much time was spent on each "page" of your site and what the "path" through the site was. The data can record the time of day and the pattern of the visit. A person may have spent ten minutes on the front page, then gone directly to the price list and order form, but not read the product information that would have added value to the product. Thus a lack of "value" to a unique product has been lost, and as a direct result a sale.
Another important question is how a person finds your page through the various search engines. Did your page provide the information the person really wanted? What key words were used to describe your site? What words are your visitors keying in to fine your site?
Design is important. There are a number of physical properties that can easily be "programmed on your site but do the visitors make a connection between your site and the product or service they wish to buy? A goal for a quality web site should be more than just a seller of products and services. A person's interest in your service needs to be sparked, an explanation as to how your service can meet their needs is necessary
A quality web site should provide testimonials of satisfied customers which enhance the credibility of the business and its service. I have met a businessman (who has done no advertising for six months) who relies on word of mouth and obtains 99% of his present business through repeat customers and others who have been recommended to do business with his company by satisfied customers
